Holly Hein Brooks

Holly Hein Brooks was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1979. Growing up in an artistic family, she learned to paint at an early age under the watchful eyes of her parents. In 2000, she received her B.F.A. with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin. Since college, she has made her living as a painter, focusing on Portraits, Murals, and Westerns. She currently resides in San Antonio with her husband, Franklin Bryson Brooks; they share an art studio and a home at the Blue Star Arts Complex.
Holly's most recent series consists of horse and portrait paintings, a favorite genre of hers. An avid horse lover, Holly spent ten years as an equestrian. The small scale of these gestural paintings shows the contained energy and liveliness of her subject matter. She works with a limited palette on a dark background switching between thin glazes and thick impasto paint.
Holly's paintings have been exhibited in numerous galleries, including AnArte in San Antonio;  ADM Project, Los Angeles in California; David Shelton Gallery in San Antonio; Star of the Republic Museum: Washington on the Brazos State Park, in Washington, Texas; and FEEL in Beacon, New York.
